Wristcutters: A Love Story

Feels about right.

Small is good in this case. Wristcutters is an indie about as absurd as films will get this year. Its conceit, that there is a post-mortem place where suicides go, actually feels about right?a dark, dirty, desaturated, desert (Southern California?) with machines on the brink of normal death in a time just before cells and computers but modern enough for lost souls finding their way back to themselves even if they are dead.

Green licenses for freed sex offenders

Columbus, OH – Some people call it the modern-day equivalent of a "Scarlet letter." The plan is to require sex offenders who've been freed from prison to have special green license plates on their cars....as a warning to children to stay away. Ratzenberger hosts manufacturing forum in Columbus

Columbus, OH – Many people recognize John Ratzenberger from his days as Cliff on the television sitcom Cheers or his voice roles on every animated movie produced by Pixar. But Ratzenberger's primary focus now has nothing to do with entertainment. The former carpenter turned actor has been touring key battleground states hosting town hall meetings on manufacturing issues. His "Keep it made in America" discussion tour stopped in Columbus. In a conversation with Mike Foley, Ratzenberger explains why he's so passionate about manufacturing.

What's the meaning of this Whiskers section anyway?

Columbus, OH – So what's the deal with this section? Well, nearly all of us at WCBE are pet lovers. We all know about whiskers, those often pesky hairs that protrude from our furry friends and sometimes even our own faces. Well, this section will include protrusions or extensions that grow out of the stories and interviews that we produce. Those extra elements that we might not have time for on the air, but that you still might find interesting or intriguing. Most of the time, it will contain additional audio, but we could include photos and other elements when applicable.

Ratzenberger reflections

Columbus, OH – John Ratzenberger - whose face people recognize from his time on Cheers and whose voice they hear coming from numerous animated characters in Pixar films - spent the past few days in Columbus preparing for his town hall meeting on manufacturing. In addition to speaking with WCBE about that, he also took time to reflect on what made Cheers so successful, the state of television and the current Hollywood writers strike.

Cabot voted off Columbus Board of Education

Columbus, OH – School money issues dominated many Central Ohio ballots Tuesday. School issues in Upper Arlington and Pickerington passed, while those in New Albany, Marysville, Canal Winchester, Newark and the Johnstown-Monroe district lost. Election Day was kind to most of the incumbents on the Columbus school board. Four incumbents won, but unofficial results show incumbent Jeff Cabot suffered a narrow defeat. Alison Holm reports.
