Coleman content with city agenda after summit

Columbus, OH – A diverse group of nearly 2,000 people packed the convention center for Columbus' first-ever citizen summit. City officials held the forum as a way to prepare for the city's bicentennial celebration, but also to seek input from residents on what the future priorities should be. Through focus groups, neighborhood outreach and conversations with folks at 23 different events this summer, the city already had about 10,000 comments to give people attending the summit a starting point.

Calls to exercise

Columbus, OH – Ohio State University researchers want to find out if cell phones can help people get fit. A study that began in January is designed to find out how people respond to electronic nagging in the form of automated phone messages. Professor Prabu David tells Alison Holm that the results could have broad implications even though the study is starting with a very specific population.

Parking garage construction commotion

Columbus, OH – The Columbus city council tabled legislation to allow construction of a downtown parking garage to start after a state lawmaker told city council the construction would drive tenants out of her nearby property. She reported that the mayor and other city officials ignored her calls and concerns for the last 15 months. Jim Letizia reports.

That's expected to change right after the Super Tuesday primary elections in many other states February 5th. Foreclosure assistance available

Columbus, OH – Ohio's foreclosure crisis is one of the worst in the nation, but there IS a little help on the way. The federal government is making money available for non-profit groups to provide financial COUNSELLING to families who are having problems keeping up with their mortgage payments. And statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen reports that advice could come in handy....because many Ohio homeowners don't seem aware of some low-interest LOANS that could get them OUT of their jam.
