Accused Ohio Killer Writes TV Reporter About His Motive

Ashland County Sheriff's Office

Letters written by suspected serial killer Shawn Grate appear to lay out a motive for his crimes. Grate wrote two letters to a Cleveland television station in which he confesses to killing five women over the past decade, including one in Marion. The common link was the victims' apparent dependence on public assistance. Legal analysts say the letters could be used as evidence against him or as part of a possible insanity defense.
