ACLU Sues Cleveland Over Convention Protest Rules

The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio is suing the city of Cleveland over its rules governing protestors during the Republican National Convention, saying they  violate free speech rights. The lawsuit seeks to reduce the size and regulations of the Event Zone covering 3.3 square miles in downtown Cleveland. The lawsuit argues the restrictions will infringe on the privacy and movement of those living or working downtown. The group also wants the city to immediately act upon permit applications from groups seeking to protest the convention. The city has declined comment. The suit was filed after representatives of the organization and the city met this week and last to try and work out a solution.
