Some AEP Ohio customers will see a credit on their electric bills this month.
The power company says it's part of an $84 million settlement with the Ohio Consumers' Council. The credit will go to customers who received their electricity through AEP Ohio's standard service plan from August 2012 through May 2015. The amount will be based on each home's usage during that time period. AEP Ohio officials say an average residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours per month will see about a $60-dollar credit. The settlement comes after the council claimed the power-provider overcharged many of its customers. Based in Gahanna, AEP Ohio serves about 1.5 million customers of AEP's subsidiary Ohio Power Company.
