AG Previews Arugments In Pending Same-Sex Marriage Case

The Ohio Attorney General's Office is urging the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati to reject arguments the state should have to recognize same-sex marriage. The state argues the decision should be left to voters. The arguments preview a court hearing in five cases from Ohio and three other states that is scheduled for early August. Attorneys for same-sex couples say their clients have a constitutional right to marry, and courts have a duty to protect that. A previous Ohio attorney general and several law enforcement agencies have made filings in support of that argument. Voters in 2004 approved a state constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
