Air Force Fires Thunderbirds Leader Following Dayton Air Show Crash

afthunderbirds.com

The U.S. Air Force has fired the leader of the Thunderbirds flight demonstration team following last year's crash of a jet preparing to perform at the Dayton Air Show.  Air Force officials say the firing of Lieutenant Colonel Jason Heard is unrelated to the crash last June. The Air Force says Heard's commanding officer "lost confidence in his leadership and risk management style." Officials say excessive speed and failure to allow enough stopping distance led to the crash.
