Another Year, Another Call For Ward System Of City Government

columbusunderground.com

In nearly every Columbus municipal election year for the past two decades, at least one candidate proposes changing City Council elections from an at-large to a ward system. Today, Republican challenger and former Ohio State football player Dimitrious Stanley is making that pitch. He says the move would give neighborhoods more representation. In the past, voters have rejected that issue, noting ward systems are ripe for corruption. In the wake of this year's City Hall bribery scandal, Stanley also proposes campaign donation limits of less than 1 thousand dollars a person and the creation of a city inspector general to investigate corruption. Stanley is one of four Republicans and four Democrats seeking four open council seats this November.
