Appeals Court Overturns Most Counts Against Former State Lawmaker

wcpo.com

The 1st Ohio District Court of Appeals has overturned 10 of 13 criminal counts against former Republican State Representative Peter Beck.

He was convicted last year of misleading investors about a company's financial status and using the money for personal gain. The court says the trial court erred in convicting Beck of securities-related counts and perjury counts. The ruling says the alleged crimes involving securities-related counts were outside the statute of limitations and the panel couldn't conclude Beck's testimony related to perjury counts was "clearly false." The Ohio Attorney General Office says it's determining whether to appeal to the Ohio Supreme Court.
