Assault Charge Against Sheriff's Deputy Dismissed

A Franklin County Municipal Court judge has dismissed an assault charge against a county sheriff's deputy accused of punching a handcuffed inmate.The judge granted Corporal Paul Wells' motion to dismiss after learning prosecutors failed to share 36 pages of investigative materials with his attorney as required. Wells is charged with punching a 24-year-old inmate in the face last March after the inmate reportedly spit on him. Prosecutors are investigating the possibility of an appeal.
