Athens Schools Make Deal With Parents Of Autistic Student

The Athens school district and the parents of an autistic first-grader have reached an agreement over how to accommodate her service dog and a special-education teacher with a severe allergy to dog dander. Under the deal, 6-year-old Shyanna Gretz will attend the Beacon School for special-needs students that she attended for the previous three years. The girl will enroll in the Athens district next school year. Gretz was moved from Morrison-Gordon Elementary to East Elementary earlier this year because of the teacher's allergy.
