A proposed constitutional amendment banning abortion in Ohio has been rejected by the Attorney General's office. Backers of the plan say they are not giving up. Ohio Public Radio's Karen Kasler reports.
The proposed constitutional amendment was created by Laura Burton of Cleveland, Anthony DiPane of Monroe Falls in Summit County and Dustin Paulson of Strasburg in Tuscarawas County. Paulson is a landscaper and youth pastor, and confirms that amendment would subject doctors and women to prosecution for aggravated murder.
“Because doctors are not going around just finding women and giving them abortions against their will.”
Paulson says he and the others, who he calls abolitionists, are committed to getting the signatures they need to get the ban before voters.
“Quitting is not an option. We’re not going to stop this.”
The Ohio proposal is similar to one the Oklahoma Supreme Court rejected on constitutional grounds.
