The Ohio Ballot Board has unanimously approved petition language for a group that wants to legalize marijuana in Ohio.
Ohio Public Radio's Jo Ingles has the next step in the process.
The Ohio Ballot Board, which has the final say on the petitions to be circulated to the public, has unanimously approved the petition language as one subject after Secretary of State Jon Husted made this statement.
Husted “We have had nobody approach us to testify or recommend that it is anything but one subject. And the advice of our legal counsel, in reviewing the matter, would also deem it to be one subject.”
This means ResponsibleOhio can present one petition to voters instead of two. The group will need more than 305,000 valid signatures to put the issue on the ballot this fall. If the organization is successful in getting it before voters, they will decide whether to allow the plan that involves ten growing sites, a handful of research facilities and a limited number of retail sites throughout the state, all of which would operate under rules set by an appointed commission.
