Central Officials say a battery for construction equipment exploded at Columbus police headquarters last night, prompting an evacuation and search of the downtown building. Emergency responders were dispatched to the police division last night after employees on multiple floors of the building heard an explosion. Investigators traced it to a battery in a hydraulic ladder in the lobby being used for an insulation project. There were no injuries and no major damage to the building. The building and some surrounding streets were shut down for several hours but reopened early this morning. The police department's non-emergency and 9-1-1 lines were not affected.
