Bedford Judge, Law Director Indicted

Two Bedford city officials are facing criminal charges in connection with a brothel police recently shut down. 41-year-old Law Director Ken Schuman and 57-year-old Municipal Court Judge Harry Jacobs have been indicted on bribery, theft and soliciting charges. They're accused of patronizing the establishment, making deals for the prostitutes and lying to investigators. Both have been on unpaid medical leave since mid-November. Prosecutors also say Schuman accepted a 95 hundred dollar bribe to get a Cleveland law firm hired as the city bond counsel, used employees to work for his outside law practice and ran errands on city time. Prosecutors say Jacobs solicited sex from at least three prostitutes and supervised and induced the activities of at least two women who were engaging in sex for hire. They also say the judge gave special treatment to a woman he paid for sex when she faced a traffic violation in his courtroom and did not reveal his relationship with her to other court officials. Bedford Clerk of Courts Tom Day says the indictment was expected.

Hank Angelo is the Bedford City Manager.
