Bellefontaine Woman Charged With Killing Three Kids

Logan County Prosecutor's Office

A Bellefontaine woman is charged with killing her three young sons because her husband paid more attention to the boys than he did to her and their daughter. 3-month-old Noah Pilkington died Tuesday. 3-month-old Niall Pilkington died in July of last year. 4-year-old Gavin Pilkington died last April. 23-year-old Brittany Pilkington is charged with three counts of murder and is scheduled to appear in court this morning. Logan County Prosecutor William Goslee talks about how they died.

Noah had been removed from the family by the county Children's Services agency shortly after his birth, along with his sister Hailey, because authorities were investigating the death of Gavin. But a judge sent them back home last week after the coroner failed to determine the causes of Gavin and Niall's deaths. Goslee says neither Children's Services nor anyone else could have predicted the deaths.

County Children's Services director Melanie Engle says there was not enough evidence to keep Pilkington away from her kids.
