Berne Union Schools Put Levy On Fall Ballot

The Berne Union school board has voted to put a 10 year, 2 percent replacement income tax levy on the November ballot. The measure would replace the current five-year, 1 percent traditional income tax with one taxing only earned income, in order to help retired people avoid paying taxes on their pension income. The Fairfield County district says the levy will help officials keep up with the costs of educating its 900 students.
