Bill Includes Pets In Protection Orders

Republican State Senator Mike Skindell has introduced a bill that would include pets in court-ordered protection orders in cases of domestic abuse and other crimes. Skindell says two dozen other states have similar laws in place. He says people have emotional attachments to their pets and sometimes remain in dangerous situations because they do not want to leave them behind. Skindell says 71 percent of pet-owning women who entered a domestic-violence shelter reported their partner killed, harmed or threatened their animal.
