Brutus Buckeye will not be marching as planned in this weekend's Pride parade through downtown Columbus.
Ohio State University decided to not send the costumed mascot over security concerns in the wake of Sunday's mass shooting at a gay night club in Orlando. A group of faculty, staff and students led by university President Michael Drake will still march in the parade Saturday. Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs says there will be more uniformed and plainclothes officers at this year's parade and festival than in years past. Brutus Buckeye was one of several area mascots invited to march in the parade with members of the Columbus Ohio Gay Lesbian & Ally Hockey Association. The Blue Jackets' Stinger, the Clippers' Lou Seal and Krash, and Columbus Crew's S.C. are all still scheduled to march.
