Federal prosecutors say a Columbus business owner has pleaded guilty to defrauding the IRS out of 1-point-3 million dollars.
46-year-old Robert Johnson owned a construction company and the Global Living furniture store. Prosecutors say Johnson borrowed 20 million dollars to keep the construction company afloat, but used the money to purchase a condominium, vehicles and other personal items. Prosecutors say he failed to pay worker withholdings to the IRS. A sentencing date is pending. The furniture store closed in 2007 amid financial problems.
