CBJ Voice Scaling Back His Schedule

The radio voice of the Columbus Blue Jackets is scaling back his schedule next season.

George Matthews, the play-by-play announcer who's trademark enthusiasm put passion into Jackets games even when it was lacking on the ice, says he won't call as many games next season. The Prince Edward Island native says he plans to spend more time at home with his family. Matthews, along with former Miami University coach Bill Davidge, called the very first Jackets game, an exhibition contest in September 2000. Matthews has called over one thousand games on radio for Columbus since then.
