Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman says the city is immediately ending its contract with a red-light traffic camera company amid a federal bribery probe. Coleman says City Attorney Richard Pfeiffer determined earlier this month the contract with Phoenix-based Redflex Traffic Systems was properly awarded and later modified, but that the City has the authority to terminate the contract. Last month a former Redflex chief executive pleaded guilty to bribery conspiracy involving getting or keeping camera contracts in Columbus and Cincinnati. According to court documents, Redflex funneled donations meant for political officials in those cities through a political consultant, who gave them to the Franklin County Democratic Party and Ohio Democratic Party. Coleman and Columbus city council president Andy Ginther have been subpoenaed for records related to the Redflex deals. They both say they're assisting federal investigators but insist they aren't linked to wrongdoing.
