Civilian "Guard" Accidentally Fires Rifle Outside Lancaster Recruiting Center

Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

A civilian standing guard outside a military recruiting center in Lancaster accidentally fired his rifle this afternoon.

Lancaster police say 28-year Christopher Reed was apparently trying to clear the ammunition when he fired into the ground in the parking lot.  No one was injured, but Reed's weapon was confiscated.  He was cited for accidental discharge in the city and will face a court hearing next week.  Reed was one of several people who stationed themselves outside military recruiting centers in the wake of deadly shooting attacks on two military sites in Tennessee last week.  On Wednesday, Governor John Kasich authorized Ohio National Guard members to carry weapons at recruiting centers.
