Cleveland Mayor Apologizes For Ambulance Bill To Tamir Rice's Family

wtam.com

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson has apologized to the Tamir Rice family for trying to charge them 500 dollars for ems and ambulance services received when he was shot in 2014. The 12-year-old African-American boy shot by white Cleveland police died at a hospital. Jackson says a city attorney was responding to a records request made by the family attorney. Jackson says the claim was routine, but it should not have been filed in probate court.

He says Medicaid reimbursed the city in early 2015 for the ambulance ride and the file was closed. The family attorney and the head of the Cleveland police union called the billing insensitive.
