Cleveland Public Library Negotiates Purchase Of Superman Collection

The Cleveland Public Library is in talks to acquire a 17 thousand-piece collection of Superman memorabilia for a permanent exhibit honoring the Cleveland-originated superhero and his creators.

Mike Curtis, the potential donor, collects all things Man of Steel besides currently penning the syndicated Dick Tracy comic strip. Curtis says he's willing to donate his collection to the library, with a few assurances. First, Curtis wants the library's word that they will display the items for free and never sell them. Second, he wants his 39-year-old son to have the power to pull the collectables "in the event of some catastrophe in his life." Superman was created by friends Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in Cleveland in the 1930s.
