Cleveland Responds To Officer Lawsuit Over Fatal 2012 Shooting

wcbe files

The city of Cleveland has denied allegations of discrimination in a federal lawsuit by officers involved in a 2012 shooting that killed two unarmed African-Americans. The lawsuit by eight white officers and one hispanic officer involved in the shooting after a high-speed chase claims the department has a history of treating non-black officers who shoot blacks more harshly than black officers who shoot blacks. The city says it had a legitimate reason for its actions that included putting the officers involved on leave and restricting their duties. The chase ended with police firing more than 130 shots, killing Timothy Russell and Malissa Williams.
