Cleveland Voters Ban Traffic Camera Program

cleveland.com

The City of Cleveland has halted its traffic camera enforcement program after 77 percent of voters Tuesday approved what amounts to a ban. The measure allows the city to enforce traffic camera violations if a police officer writes the ticket. Backers say the program was illegal because the city and not a municipal court oversees appeals. Mayor Frank Jackson says he'll figure out a way to make up for the loss of millions of dollars the program has generated.

The Ohio Supreme Court is considering whether such camera programs are constitutional.
