Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton made a pitch for the women's vote this morning during a speech before an estimated 500 people at the Columbus Anthenaeum. Democrats see women as a key voting block in next year's race. The former U.S. Secretary of State called for raising the federal minimum wage and ensuring equal pay for equal work.
Clinton also said she will support federal funding for Planned Parenthood, which has come under fire from Congressional Republicans.
And with new polls showing Clinton trailing Democratic challenger Bernie Sanders, she sounded populist themes of raising taxes on the top one percent of wage earners and a greater federal policy focus on the middle class. But the speech was short on specific policy proposals. Several demonstrators protested outside of the event, including an anti-abortion group and a group that supports Sanders.
