Coingate's Noe Seeks Clemency

WCBE files

A former Toledo area coin dealer who raised money for Ohio Republicans before being convicted in a state investment scandal is asking the state for clemency. The request comes after 60-year-old Tom Noe dropped his appeal for a new trial in January. Noe's attorney has filed a clemency petition with the Ohio Parole Board. It has been seven years since Noe was convicted of stealing from a 50 million rare-coin fund he oversaw for the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation. The scandal helped Democrats win four of five statewide elective offices in 2006. Noe is now serving an 18-year prison term and isn't due to be released for another 11 years.
