Columbus, OH – Last September, Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman ordered the city attorney to offer Derris Lewis a settlement, saying police made mistakes in the case of the slaying of Lewis' twin brother. Lewis spent more than a year in jail and after a mistrial, the case was dismissed in August when prosecutors admitted his handprint found at the scene of the crime inside the family's Linden home was not in blood and was not tested by police. The police mistake brought threats of a lawsuit by the family, which also wants an apology from the police division. In the final installment of his year end interview with Jim Letizia, Mayor Coleman says a settlement has yet to be reached.
