Columbus Adding More Safety Cameras

Columbus safety officials say crews will begin installing 33 additional neighborhood safety cameras this week. The cameras will be placed at 11 locations in South Linden, the Hilltop, and the Livingston Avenue area. The work's expected to be completed by the end of the month. It will bring to nearly 150 the total number of cameras installed. Last year, the city installed 111 cameras on the Hilltop and in the Mount Vernon, South Linden, Weinland Park and Livingston Avenue areas as part of a pilot project. The city says the cameras were requested by neighborhood groups and have helped reduce crime. But safety officials have told city council the cameras also push criminal activity into areas that don't have them.
