Columbus, OH – Arguably the biggest story in Columbus city politics in 2009 was city officials decision to ask voters to approve an income tax increase for the first time in more than two decades. In August, voters agreed to raise the tax by a quarter of a percent after city leaders warned of service reductions, empaneled a group of experts to examine spending and revenue, and promised to cut 100 million dollars in spending over the next ten years. This week we'll air segments of our annual end of the year interview with the mayor -- we begin with a recap of the city's fiscal picture and why Coleman calls 2009 the year that saved Columbus.
