Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble plans to open a major distribution center in Union, Ohio next winter that will employ 800 people. Columbus-based Exel, a supply-chain logistics provider, and Cincinnati-based Quality Associates, a contract packager, will operate the facility. The 89 million dollar, 1 million-square-foot facility is one of six P&G is locating near major population centers with efficient road and rail networks. Ohio Governor John Kasich say the goal is to reduce corporate transportation costs and get products to customers faster.
Kasich's job creation entity, JobsOhio, is giving P&G tax breaks as part of the project. Last August, the Associated Press reported some JobsOhio board members have ties to P&G and other companies getting state tax breaks. Last month, P&G reported net sales in its most recent fiscal quarter of 20.6 billion dollars.
