Columbus Firehouses Getting Opioid Vending Machines

City officials say vending machines being installed in Columbus firehouses will help paramedics and firefighters keep better track of the drugs they dispense. The city has set aside 220 thousand dollars to purchase 18 vending machines for first-responders to restock medic units with drugs. Fire officials say a unique identification number and sometimes even a biometric thumbprint is required to access the drugs. Fire officials say the machines will help secure drugs regulated by state and federal agencies, such as opioids.
