Columbus Public Health officials are warning local doctors the Zika virus is spreading rapidly, with potentially fatal effects for infants. The department is advising physicians to talk with pregnant women or those who expect to be pregnant about avoiding travel to Brazil or other areas where the mosquito-borne virus is prevalent. Doctor Frank Esper is an infectious disease specialist at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland.
Esper says researchers are working on a vaccine specifically for pregnant women.
