Columbus police say they've recorded an additional homicide for this year following the death of a 1998 shooting victim earlier this month. Police say the victim, 61-year-old Carl Gilbert Jr., had been sitting at the front desk of a Volunteers of America office near downtown in April 1998 when he was shot and left with permanent disabilities. Police say the suspect, Melvin Young, was found not guilty by reason of insanity on a felonious assault charge and died three years ago. Authorities say Gilbert died Aug. 11 from complications from his original gunshot wounds.
