Columbus Man Charged With Supporting Islamic State Wants Mental Counseling

U.S. Attorney's Office

Court documents show the Columbus man arrested for allegedly attempting to join the Islamic State group may have mental health issues. The mother of 20-year-old Aaron Daniels says her son was hearing voices and told her his co-workers were calling him the devil in Arabic. Investigators say Daniels planned to fly to Libya to join the Islamic State. Attorneys representing Daniels are seeking his release to obtain court-approved mental health counseling and treatment. Prosecutors say he's a flight risk.
