Columbus Man Sentenced In Fatal Crash With Bicyclist

A Columbus man will serve 30 days in jail and pay an 850 dollar fine for crashing into and killing a bicyclist last year. 33-year-old Casey Hakes admitted he was intoxicated when he killed 19-year-old Elissa Hatfield in July of last year in a crash near the intersection of Hilliard-Rome and Fisher Roads. Police charged Hakes with a misdemeanor after an investigation determined Hatfield failed to yield the right of way as she entered the intersection.
