Columbus Police Say Summer Crime Crackdown Was A Success

Columbus Division of Police

Columbus police officials say their summer safety push reduced the number of local murders and took hundreds of guns off the streets. Officials say there were 23 homicides this past summer, down from 31 over the same period a year ago. More than 11 hundred grams of cocaine were seized. Deputy Columbus police chief Thomas Quinlan says 50 officers were placed in what he calls hot spots for crime.

Quinlan also says officers increased the number of contacts they had with citizens, which helps reduce neighborhood crime.
