Columbus Police Sending Officers To Cleveland For RNC

columbus.gov

Columbus Police say they’ll send a 'sufficient' number of officers to Cleveland to help with security at next month’s Republican National Convention. Deputy Columbus Police Chief Michael Woods would not specify the number of officers being deployed to Cleveland, saying only that it will be enough to help Cleveland, but not hurt Columbus.

Cleveland will reimburse Columbus for the costs involved.  Cincinnati police earlier this week declined Cleveland’s request for help. Concerns over workers’ compensation insurance and the need to provide security for an NAACP convention in Cincinnati were two key issues., according to Cincinnati officials. Last week, the Greensboro, North Carolina police department backed out of a commitment to send 50 officers  over concerns about workers’ compensation insurance and a lack of confidence in Cleveland’s preparedness for the event.
