Columbus Settles Lawsuit By Family Of 4-year-old Shot By Cop

miseeharris.com

Columbus City Council last night approved a 780 thousand dollar settlement with the family of a 4-year-old girl severely wounded when she was shot by a police officer in June of last year.  City Attorney Rick Pfeiffer says Ava Ellis was accidentally shot by officer Jonathan Thomas while he was attempting to shoot the family's bulldog. Pfeiffer says Thomas was in Whitehall to take an accident report when he was called to the Chandler Drive home on a report of someone being hurt.

The family sought more than 1.6 million dollars in its lawsuit. Police officials suspended Thomas for three days for violating firearms procedures. He is appealing. The Columbus Fraternal Order of police says Thomas did nothing wrong.
