Columbus Zoo Officials Want Replacement Levy On November Ballot

The board of the Columbus Zoo has approved asking taxpayers for financial assistance. The board has voted to place a 10-year, .75 mill renewal levy on the November ballot. The current levy expires at the end of the year. Zoo officials say the levy would not increase taxes. 15 percent of the facility's operating budget comes from the current levy, If approved, money would also be used on renovations and equipment. Franklin County Commissioners have until August 5 to decide whether it will ask the county elections board to put the measure on the ballot. 70 percent Voters in May of last year rejected a 1.25 mill levy.
