Competitor Buys Newark Hospital

Dec 28, 2012

A Newark hospital is buying a competing facility owned by physicians for more than 26-million dollars.

The sale of the for-profit Medical Center of Newark to the non-profit Licking Memorial Health Systems will be finalized today. The medical center has said it will lay off its 160 workers because of the sale. But a spokesperson says the nonprofit hospital has offered to interview all of the workers and will hire many of them.
