Contenders To Succeed Justice O'Neill Emerge

supremecourt.ohio.gov

Governor John Kasich is considering three candidates to fill the soon-to-be vacant Ohio Supreme Court seat of Democratic Justice William O'Neill, who is stepping down January 26 to run for governor.

The applicants are Judge Mary DeGenaro of the 7th Ohio District Court of Appeals in Youngstown, Toledo attorney Richard Johnson, and Carol Gottschling, an attorney and human resources director for Lorain City Schools. Kasich spokesperson Jon Keeling says evaluations continue. Some Republican lawmakers are trying to oust O'Neill early, saying he should have stepped down weeks ago.
