Control Tower Operators Protest Closure Plans

Cuayhoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald says he will appeal the loss of the County Airport control tower to the Federal Aviation Administration and a federal appeals court. The loss is blamed on federal sequestration cuts. A county spokesperson says the FAA isn't following its policies on providing aviation safety.

The cuts also will force the shutdown of 148 other control towers, including those at Don Scott and Bolton Fields in Columbus. The closure process begins on April 7th. Ohio State University is also asking a federal court to stop the FAA from closing the tower at Don Scott Field.
