Coroner: Ohio State Athlete Who Took His Own Life Had Concussions

The Franklin County coroner says an Ohio State athlete who committed suicide had suffered concussions but didn't show evidence of brain disease.

Dr. Anahi Ortiz announced the findings Friday in her final report on 22-year-old wrestler and football scout team member KostaKarageorge. The announcement had awaited neuropathology reports about Karageorge's brain. Ortiz had previously said Karageorge killed himself with a gunshot to the head. Karageorge was missing for days before he was found in a Columbus trash bin Nov. 30. Police records of texts from Karageorge's phone indicate he had just gone through a breakup and sent suicidal messages to his ex-girlfriend. Texts to his mother said concussions were affecting his mind. She told police he'd had several concussions and spells of confusion.
