Coroner Says DuBose Had Fragrance, Not Alcohol In Car When Killed

hamilton-co.org

The Hamilton County Coroner says a bottle held up by an African-American motorist before he was shot by a white University of Cincinnati police officer apparently contained a fragrance, not alcohol.

Lab analysis found compounds consistent with those in air fresheners or perfumes.  UC police had said after the July 19 shooting of 43-year-old Samuel DuBose that he produced a bottle of alcohol during the traffic stop. A police body camera video showed the bottle he picked up from his car floor appeared to be labeled as gin. Officer Ray Tensing had asked about the bottle after stopping DuBose for missing a front license plate.  Tensing pleaded not guilty to murder. His attorney says he thought he was going to be dragged under DuBose's car.
