Coroner: Spinal Injuries, Hypothermia Caused Death Of OWU Athlete

Ohio Wesleyan University

Foul play has been ruled out in the death of an Ohio Wesleyan University soccer player whose body was found in Delaware Run Creek in February. The Delaware County Coroner says 19-year-old Luke Gabbert died of spinal injuries and exposure to the cold. Mark Hickman says Gabbert sustained a blunt force injury to the "upper cervical spine" and hypothermia as the result of a fall into the creek. His blood-alcohol level tested at 0.21, more than twice the state's legal limit of 0.08. School resident Rock Jones has said there is no indication of foul play.
