County Moving Distemper-Exposed Shelter Dogs To Quarantine Areas

wikipedia

Officials at the Franklin County Dog Shelter are transporting at least 19 canines exposed to distemper to medically supervised, off-site quarantine areas. The move comes after the shelter euthanized 52 dogs last weekend when they showed severe symptoms of distemper or were deemed not suitable for a prolonged quarantine. Shelter director Don Winstel says officials are working with rescue groups to move more dogs, though they must be assured any outbreak could be contained. New dogs coming into the shelter could be put up for adoption later this week.
