Court Blocks Ben-Gals Cheerleader Lawsuit

Cincinnati Bengals

The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati has ruled an Arizona-based gossip website should have been immune from being sued by a former Cincinnati Ben-Gals cheerleader over online posts saying she was promiscuous and had sexually transmitted diseases. The decision reverses a federal judge's order allowing the lawsuit to proceed. Former Bengals cheerleader Sarah Jones sued thedirty.com in 2012 over the anonymously submitted posts. A jury found the posts were substantially false and the firm acted with malice or reckless disregard by allowing them to be published. Jones was awarded 338 thousand dollars. Jones' attorney says he'll likely appeal.
